IELTS General Writing Task 1

You will be given a situation and asked to write a letter seeking information or explaining the problem. You may write a semi-formal, formal, or personal letter.

How to answer ?

Consider the existing situation. Because the situation is hypothetical, you may need to write your own letter responses and questions.

After considering your answer, write a letter following the format below:

Justify your letter-writing choice in a few phrases.

Middle: Issues,Your task was to write on a list of difficulties.

Final paragraph: Write a good letter to conclude.

Letter Types

1-Formal Letter

When writing to a company or someone you don’t know, you must draft a formal letter. It might be a foreign bank or university.

Formal letters include complaints, applications, resignations, and arrangements.

2-Semi-Formal letter

When writing to someone we know but are not close friends with, we utilize this style. It may also be used for company contacts. For instance, you may write to your supervisor or a former undergraduate professor.

3-Personal Letters

A personal letter to intimate friends, relatives, or others known to the writer. It is usually casual and inviting and does not follow a structure. However, informal letters should contain a few essential elements.

Ielts General Writing Task 1 Tips

Format: You have 60 minutes to complete two tasks. Remember that you must manage each activity’s time.

You must write a transactional letter in response to a situation. In other words, you may be compelled to request something or respond to someone else’s request. Task 1 should take 20 minutes and need 150 words.

Assessment Criteria: Examiners will evaluate how well you replied to the job, arranged your ideas, and used appropriate language and terminology.

Sample and Model Answers: This is a great way to learn what you need to do to acquire the band points you want. When you read model responses, notice the writing structure, vocabulary, and phrases so you may employ them in your own writing.
